The Miyake Eye Operating Room
The Miyake Eye Operating Room (MEOR I) at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) is OFPHIL's first project. OFPHIL has provided a state-of-the-art vitreoretinal surgical
unit and an Eye Instrument Center (EIC) equipped with diagnostic and therapeutic equipment for outpatient ophthalmic care.
This unit not only serves the poor but also trains
ophthalmologists in the use of modern technology.
The PGH was the first government institution in the Philippines to offer ophthalmic microsurgical services to its patients. The facilities are also
open to private patients on fee basis. The income so derived is used for the upkeep of the equipment and other operating expenses.
Both the MEOR and EIC have helped to train hundreds of resident ophthalmologist in the use of technologies. The availability of these
state-of-the-art eye technologies has enabled the PGH Department of Ophthalmology to establish
a Medical and Surgical Retina Postgraduate Fellowship Program since 1996.
